WP 5 Water System Characterisation

This work package contributes to the project by characterizing the main water systems and their vulnerability to decreasing groundwater recharge. The main groundwater and surface water systems are investigated and characterized with relation to seasonal dynamics and depletion characteristics of discharge depending on the meteorological conditions. Past, present and future water usages in the pilot catchments are identified and quantified. A data base of water uses and a data base of springs is created. Furthermore the following water use is identified: drinking water use for permanent and tourist population water use for artificial snow as well as for agriculture (irrigation and cattle water supply), fisheries, hydropower, water sports such as rafting and cooling water for industry.
